Day 2 – Give Thanks for Your Food

DAY 2: Give Thanks for Your Food

I find this particular day’s topic a bit of a funny one. However, as my vow to this challenge states, I will give thanks according to its schedule.

So today, I choose to give thanks to, wait for it… Kiribath.

Kiribath or milk rice, is a traditional Sri Lankan dish usually eaten at breakfast (I say usually here because, usually doesn’t count with me. I am often seen eating this dish 3 meals a day over an entire weekend). My favourite combinations with this dish are a good fish curry and lunu miris.. I am salivating just thinking about this.

For those of you who know me well, you will be quite aware of my endemic and all-encompassing love for this brilliant food type. Often times, quite a few of you have been thoroughly afraid of this love of mine which can sometimes result in eating this dish 3 meals a day, all day every day, for at least 4 days in a row. I can’t really explain my stalker like obsession with this dish but all I say is, I make no apologies for it!

SO, I give thanks for Kiribath’s existence. I am grateful to my Mum for making it for me multiple times during weekends and having to put up with my hovering around the kitchen until it is ready each and every time. I give thanks for the dish being so good that I HAVE to lick my plate and my fingers after every sitting of consumption, in spite of the amount of times that I have already eaten it that day. I am grateful to my Sri Lankan heritage for allowing me to have experienced this dish in all of its delightful essence; and lastly I am so very grateful to Kiribath itself and praise it’s downright deliciousness!
