DAY 4 – Reflect on the Meaning of Gratitude

Today it’s my turn to reflect on the meaning of gratitude. For me personally, this means reflecting on the act of giving thanks for the things I have been attributed in my life and for the people who have made it. As human beings, we tend to live life at a million miles an hour, moving from one task to the next. We barely have time to stop and reflect because we get so caught up and consumed by the daily little things that life dishes up. I’ve begun to think that maybe the little knocks that we take in life, occur in order for us to slow down, stop and think about what and who we have in our lives. It allows us with the opportunity to reflect and remember all of the wonderful things that we often take for granted every single day.

I went through something recently that shook me to my core it forced me to reevaluate everything in my life. Initially, I took it as a curse, but as time has gone on I can now see that it was anything but. For too long I have had my eyes closed to the splendor and beauty of my surroundings. I have overlooked the amazing people in my life and instead chosen to focus on the things that I don’t have. It has made me a cynical and unhappy person who has expected for things to occur as opposed to going out there and truly fighting for them. To the universe I say today, thank you for the past, I am grateful for the present and look forward to the future. I take responsibility for forging my own path to happiness and I promise to be grateful every day. To continue to wear those rose coloured glasses, which are such a blessing, to cherish the ones I love and to constantly stop and smell the roses. For life is a thing of beauty, even during the times that it may not seem as such.
